Testing Procedures
Testing procedures for Airframe and Powerplant licensing.
Prior to testing, DME must conduct a pre test interview by phone or in person with Applicant as required by FAA Order 8900
Objective of interview:
1. Confirm the Applicant understands Pilots Bill of Rights/ Privacy Act forms
2. Review 8610-2 Forms
3. Review written test results
4. Review AMTS Certificate or Applicant Experience
5. Confirm proper photo ID
6. Discuss/understand rating/testing requirements.
7. Answer any Questions
Testing
Oral Testing (Knowledge Questions)
There are three oral tests, one each for General, Airframe and Powerplant.
No reference material is allowed during oral testing.
The number of questions asked will vary by Applicant depending on their written test results. (AKTR) Examples:
100% AKTR: A minimum of 4 questions per section (4 General, 4 Airframe, 4 Powerplant)
70 % AKTR: The maximum number of questions: 22 General, 34 Airframe,
34 Powerplant)
For every ACS code missed on the Airman’s Knowledge Test, (not individual
questions), there will be an additional oral question added to oral testing.
A minimum score of 70% will be applied to the entire test as a whole for each section and not by subject area.

Practical Testing (Skill Elements) consists of projects.
There are three practical tests, one each for General, Airframe and Powerplant.
The number of practical projects that must be tested is:
9 for General
11 for Airframe
11 for Powerplant
The DME must ask two practical questions that are relevant to each project which are included in determining if the project is passed or failed.
The minimum score of 70% will be applied to the entire practical test as a whole for each section and not by individual projects.
Test Schedule
Testing will be scheduled for a maximum of 8 hours per day with an additional one hour break for lunch. If applicant needs more time to complete testing, testing will resume the next day or continue the same day if Applicant wishes.
Test Results
Only three results are possible once testing begins:
Pass- Temporary Certificate will be issued
Fail- Notice of Disapproval will be issued. Refer to FAR 65.19 for retesting procedures
Test not completed, due to circumstances- Letter of Discontinuance will be issued
